Inaugural QTC Partner Benefits

The Quantum Technology Center (QTC) @ the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) is forming a Partners Program to bring together like-minded groups in academia, industry, and government. Together with its partners, QTC will exchange ideas and opportunities to Innovate, Translate, and Educate in quantum technology.

QTC will work with each partner to meet their needs and create individually tailored engagements. Partners will contribute to the QTC community through their individual strengths and capabilities. The goal of the QTC Partners Program is to develop mutually beneficial relationships in the rapidly emerging field of quantum technology.

Benefits available to inaugural QTC Partners are described below.

Research: Partners will have top priority to engage with the QTC Director and Fellows — world-leading quantum scientists and engineers — on mutually-beneficial research topics, and to team on sponsored research awards from government and foundations.

Executive Briefings: Partners will receive customized executive briefings, including an early look at intellectual property (IP) emerging from QTC labs and notification of published research.

Intellectual Property (IP): QTC IP will be available for licensing to Partners, including priority for licensing IP resulting from projects sponsored by the Partner. Additional benefits such as exclusive licensing rights and pre-paid IP can be negotiated upon request.

Talent: Training the in-demand quantum workforce is at the heart of the QTC. Partners will have the opportunity to engage with outstanding UMD students studying quantum science and technology, including for projects and recruitment for full-time and internship employment. Resumes of students and recruitment events can be coordinated by request.

On-Campus Labs & Space: QTC will be centered in the state-of-the-art IDEA Factory, coming online in Fall 2021, to augment existing world-class quantum laboratories at UMD. Bi-annual lab tours will be provided to Partners with the option for private tours.

Special Invitations: Partners will receive premier invitations to a diverse array of special meetings, workshops, and interdisciplinary summits on quantum technology and its diverse applications. Partners will also be able to suggest and sponsor focused workshop topics, and will receive VIP invitations to the annual QTC @ UMD showcase.

Promotion & Engagement: Partners will be featured on the QTC website and materials in order to create robust engagement within the QTC community. Partners will also have the opportunity to externally promote their QTC engagement through media, online, and published materials.

QTC Industrial Fellows: Each QTC Partner will have the opportunity to appoint one individual as a QTC Industrial Fellow. This person will be designated to serve on the QTC Commercialization Advisory Board*, consult with QTC on educational and research pursuits, be provided with QTC office space on an as needed basis, and given priority access to scheduling time in QTC laboratories. Partners can support additional Industrial Fellows with a further annual contribution (maximum of one person serving on the Commercialization Advisory Board per QTC Partner).

Inaugural QTC Partners will support QTC activities, including one QTC Industrial Fellow, via an annual contribution of $30,000 to The University of Maryland College Park Foundation, designated to QTC. Additional Industrial Fellows can be supported via a further annual contribution of $15,000 per person.

Additional Benefits available to Inaugural QTC Partners are described below.

Quantum Leadership & Expertise “On-Call”: Leadership Partners will be granted priority “on-call” access to the QTC Director and Fellows as a sounding board for two-way advising in quantum science and technology. Special meetings with key QTC researchers can take place upon request. Specific consulting arrangements with the QTC Director and Fellows can also be negotiated upon request.

Premier IP: First look at QTC’s IP portfolio will be available to Leadership Partners, in addition to priority for licensing IP resulting from projects sponsored by the Partner. Exclusive licensing rights and pre-paid IP opportunities can be negotiated, and can be fast-tracked, by request.

Access to Office and Lab Space: Office space and use of QTC labs for research activities and shared office space will be available to Leadership Partners at the discretion of the Director.

Quantum Mentorship: Private educational discussions and/or seminars for Leadership Partners will be presented by QTC Fellows or researchers to further training and mentorship in quantum science and technology.

Additional QTC Industrial Fellows: Leadership Partners may appoint up to three individuals as QTC Industrial Fellows (maximum of one person serving on the Commercialization Advisory Board per QTC Leadership Partner).

Inaugural QTC Leadership Partners will support QTC activities via an annual contribution of $80,000 to The University of Maryland College Park Foundation, designated to QTC.
